Welcome to the Sackler School of Medicine’s
Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) website. Within this site you will find
information and resources available to students who wish to pursue a career
in Emergency Medicine. There are many opportunities available to our group such as ER
shadowing, ambulance ride-alongs, guest speakers, EM clerkships and much more.

OPPORTUNITIES
Magen David Adom's Special
Opportunity
Details: Spend 2 months volunteering
with Magen David Adom, Israel’s equivalent of The Red Cross. After a 9-day
intensive training course you will be integrated into the volunteer ambulance
corps and see Israel in a very unique way. Highly recommended for the
summer between your first and second year of study.
ER Clerkship
Available for students’ Israel
Elective either during the 3rd or 4th years of studies

Details:
Clerkship is typically 3 day shifts and 1 night shift a week consisting of 8
hours each and is limited to no more than 4 students per clerkship. The
Sheba ER is a general ER that sees a very large variety in patients. It
provides a well-rounded exposure that is similar in structure to that of the
U.S. Students will be involved in every aspect of patient care during
their clerkship.
ER Shadowing
Available for students in any year of study

Details: Students will be allowed to shadow doctors of Surgery B in
the surgical ER. Surgery B is responsible for the ER every 3rd day (ex:
June 19, June 22, June 25, etc). There is no pre-set amount of hours
with shadowing.
Emergency Medicine
Research
Strongly encouraged for any student interested in research,
but ideal for first and second year students who wish to remain an integral
part of various research projects during their time in Israel.

Details: ACLS is a
certification provided through the American Heart Association and is valid for 2 years from the date of completion. Course
involves 2 full days, such as 2 consecutive Fridays, with the final examination
on the last day. You will need the ACLS manual for the course which can be
purchased at Pro Books (03-525-7999) or through Gi-Gi’s (03-642-3923).
